Graduates of the Risk Management and Insurance program at the University of Louisiana at Monroe are in high demand for brokerage, underwriting, risk management, and claims positions.

Some of the features of the Risk Management Program at the University of Louisiana at Monroe are:

  • We use “The Institutes” CPCU course materials for most of our risk management and insurance coursework; students can be on their way to earning the prestigious CPCU designation before ever graduating college
  • Most RMI majors complete at least one for-credit internship before graduating; ULM’s College of Business and Social Science’s Internship Support fund provides housing stipends to allow students to do internships away from home
  • Many of our students have multiple job offers several months before graduation; nearly all have secured jobs before graduating
  • We have significant coursework in the exciting fields of Surplus Lines and Reinsurance; nearly half or our graduates have gone on to work in the Surplus Lines or Reinsurance industry
    • This is the area of the industry that insures most high risks and unique risks like athlete’s body parts, coastal vacation property and entertainment risks
    • These types of risks are significant in Louisiana and in the Southeast as a whole
    • Surplus Lines brokers, MGAs, and insurers as well as other employers in related field have sought after our students for many years
  • Students get practical experience in their coursework by  working with ULM’s Small Business Risk Management Institute to analyze actual business exposures
  • Students can complete the degree requirements either online or face-to-face
  • Dozens of RMI alumni and other prospective employers visit ULM’s campus to share their stories about their organization and professional experiences and to hire future interns and employees
